Our desire is to provide you with the tools to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus and a better understanding of who God is and what His desire is for your life. We believe in one Lord, one Faith, one baptism…. (Ephesians 4:5) And we believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
Church History
In 1871, a group of community people, who felt the need to religious gatherings, began meeting in various homes. Mr. Youngsboro, a white landowner, seeing the need of the people to have a central meeting place, gave his permission for them to use one of his vacant houses for worship. The house was located one half mile from the cross road on the Old Columbus road. It was named Youngsboro, in respect to the landowner and his generosity. Rev. John Thomas and Ministers from the community made up the Presbytery.
Soon after Christmas in 1873, the congregation was made up of the Colquitt, Johnson, Casen and Steven families. All being charter members. Youngsboro’s first pastor was Rev. Thomas White. As the church progressed, Rev. J.J. Chisloms, Bro. Charlie Woodson, Bro. Ed Moss and Bro. Will Zellus and Rev. Tadd Jackson served as minister and the congregation grew in number.
Our Pastor 1988 to Present
Rev. Dr. George C. McCulloh became the first “full time” Pastor of Pleasant Grove in May 1988. Through his administration, the Wednesday Night Bible study enrollment was increased remarkably; the children and youth begun to make decisions about Jesus, and the New Members class continues to learn the Bible and Baptist Doctrine. The church pews were cushioned, an organ and piano purchased; the kitchen renovated—beginning with the purchase of a new stove and new cabinets were built.
As the church continue to grow, 24 new members were added to the roll between May 1988 and February 1991. In October 1989, Bro. Willie G. Williams announced his call as a preacher of the Gospel. His trial sermon was held on November 19th at Pleasant Grove and he was licensed to begin his ministry.
